MILITARY AFFAIRS & WAR: The Authors and Publishers

WHY WE FIGHT

WHY MILITARY BOOKS & War Board Games?

This article considers some of the more interesting writers, publishers who are worth pursuing their products. I am a fan of alternative history regarding military events, but I have covered that in more depth over the length of time blogging, so that won't be looked at here.

I'm an avid reader of books focused upon War, Battles, and Warriors. I've history degrees that came about largely as a result, of being aimed, from a young age on historical events, gathering war board games and playing them, and living in a world that saw Wars never ending. Vietnam, the Middle East, the Cold War and other ongoing conflicts. As I grew older, I became more interested in the various communities and the cultures of different groups of humanity. I found a world that was filled with conflict, over things such as geopolitics, competition over resources, and hatred.

To learn about various people one most look further than at war. I took French and German languages, and self taught myself some other bare bones phrases from other languages. Cuisines of many countries taught me what and why people eat, and how that reflects taste, or wealth, or other factors of human taste. I looked into the creative arts of numerous other countries, and found the immersive manner of education, language, cuisine, and politics, led me to know more, and to provide a context for the wars I read about.

THE REASON IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ HISTORY, WAR GAME,
CONSIDER THE MOTIVES, EVENTS AND END RESULTS OF WAR

I've spent 45 years seriously studying the events of the world, and wars humans fight. The first reason to read about such, is because our world is ever growing, evolving, and in some ways, progressing. But the way that humanity often develops technological advantages, is during war. We devote great resources, efforts, research, lives and sacrifices, to win wars.

Some argue that pharmaceutical manufacturers try to treat but not cure disease, since to treat means long term payments and reward, whereas a cure, means a one time reward, however great. War works the same way for some industries and politicians. To prepare for, to raise the warnings about, and to accuse others, results in financial investments meant for war. And once a war begins, if it ends quickly, humans have tried to use caution and preparation to find a solution. But if it takes 10 or more years, humans have chosen to kill each other, and invest resources and lives long after the cause is forgotten.

Searching for the answers of why do we keep going to war might be impossible to answer. Unless what I fear is true, ... We, humans, like war. Humans enjoy building the weapons, the cause, and the motives for war.  They like to attack, to defend, to use massively dangerous tools, that will kill each other.

We use warriors as being the archetype for non war examples. A person who prays is called a prayer warrior. The term is not meant to embrace war, or it isn't outwardly doing that. But we do respond to it.  We are proud of our focused intent, and accomplishments, our distinct efforts to be more than average, all that makes us a "warrior". But if we oppose war, how can we use terms in a neutral way?  I do it.  I am not saying others are wrong. I am the one here, but I know I am not alone.

FINALLY...

Passings: Sinead O'Connor , 56, Irish creative artist in music dies

Farewell Sinead O'Connor

In a normal world, she'd have passed through without much notice.  But she was a rebel at heart, and yet, she was also seeking something holy and sacred.  Her anger made her enemies, but her compassion thereafter was mistaken for erratic or irrational outbursts. She was someone with a great talent and ability to sing, and write music, and obviously, to express emotions most refuse to acknowledge.

Her music is something that moves me. I am very wounded by this loss, not for my own listening, I have ways to hear her sing long after she is remembered. But she was someone who constantly chafed at the regulations that are society. Coming from a broken home, having been domestically abused, being popularly as well as critically treated poorly for how she expressed her anger at the church, she was someone who had a very difficult path.

I hope she finds peace now, something she seemed to never have in her life.
